COVID-19 Phase 2 Update

Dear Residents, Families, and Team Members,

On September 17, 2020, Governor Abbott announced Phase 2 visitation for eligible assisted living communities effective Thursday, September 24, 2020 (please see Governor Abbott’s press release here:
https://gov.texas.gov/es/news/post/governor-abbott-expands-capacity-for-certain-services- in-texas-announces-guidance-for-nursing-home-long-term-care-visitations).

Additionally, the Texas Health & Human Services (“THHS”) officially issued the revised COVID-19 Emergency Rule on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 (see the revised rule here:

https://hhs.texas.gov/sites/default/files/documents/doing-business-with-hhs/providers/long-term- care/alf/alf-covid-19-expanision-reopening-visitation-emergency-rule.pdf.

Under these revised rules, residents will be allowed to permanently designate up to two essential caregivers who may safely go inside a community for a scheduled visit to attend to their loved one’s physical, social, and emotional needs. Only one caregiver can visit a resident at a time. Additionally, salon services will be allowed to be performed again in our communities.

All our assisted living communities must follow all THHS regulations and will be required to have policies and procedures in place prior to the visitation and salon services being permitted. The visitation currently allowed at your community will not be impacted; however, the timing by THHS in publishing the final regulation may delay our ability to allow visits until we can have all things in place to ensure safety of our residents and compliance.

We ask for your patience as we work through the implementation process. We understand you may have concerns and want further information. Our desire is to provide thorough and transparent communication. Should you have questions, please submit them to your community Executive Director. We are so pleased we will be able to connect our residents back with their families.

Our teams are excited and anxious to get safe visitation plans in place as soon as possible. We continue to be thankful for all the support, prayers and advocacy that has facilitated this needed change.

Sincerely-

Debi Akeroyd
VP, People & Operations
